Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find out if a particular radiologist, radiation oncologist or physicist is certified?

If you require a formal written verification of a physician or physicist's status . . .
We can provide an official letter of verification for a fee of $100 payable by check, VISA or MASTERCARD (those are the only two credit cards we accept). Send your written request via fax, email, or postal mail accompanied by the fee and it will be processed accordingly. If paying by credit card, please state, which card you want to use, the card number, expiration date, name as it appears on the card, and the billing address of the card. For your convenience, you may download our verification request form.

If you do not require a formal written verification…
The ABR does not verify certification by phone or informally. However, information on physician certification is available from the American Board of Medical Specialties. The American Board of Medical Specialties also publishes a directory of certified medical specialists. This directory is available in public and medical libraries. More information on the American Board of Medical Specialties is available at http://www.abms.org.

Do you publish a listing of certified radiologists, radiation oncologists and physicists?

The ABR does not publish that information. The American Board of Medical Specialties, our parent board, does publish such a directory. See the previous question.

Do you provide referrals?

No, the ABR does not give referrals.

Can you give me any background on a particular radiologist?

All ABR files are confidential. We will only verify whether a radiologist is certified or is in the examination process.

Do you publish any mailing lists?

No, ABR data is kept confidential.

How can I update my mailing address and contact information?

Please notify the ABR of any address and/or contact information changes in writing. This can be in the form of an email message to our main address: information@theabr.org; by faxing our office at: 520-790-3200; or by postal mail to: 5441 E.
