Conditions & Reregistration
You will have three opportunities to appear for and pass any examination. Failure to accept an appointment, cancellation of an appointment or failure to appear for a scheduled examination will be regarded as one of the three opportunities. If unsuccessful after three opportunities, you will be instructed submit a new registration plus the reregistration fee before you can be admitted to further exams. Anyone who needs to reapply for exams will be so notified by the ABR.
Conditions:
Computer-based
Part 1 consists of 2 exams: General & Clinical. When you have taken both exams:
- If you passed General only, you must retake Clinical only.
- If you passed Clinical only, you must retake all of Part 1.
You must pass all of Part 1 to go on to Part 2. Part 2 must be taken within 7 years of passing Part 1, or you must to begin the process anew.
Part 2 consists of 3 exams, covering the three areas of specification. You make elect to take one, two or all three exams, depending on your chosen career path.
The three exams are:
- Therapeutic Radiologic Physics
- Diagnostic Radiologic Physics
- Medical Nuclear Physics
You cannot condition the Part 2 exam. If you do not pass, you must retake the exam.
Oral
You must pass all of Part 1 and your chosen exam(s) in Part 2 to go on to Part 3, the oral exam. If you are taking the exam in more than one specialty area of radiologic physics, you must take a full oral exam for each area.
If you fail 1 category you are considered to have "conditioned" the exam and must retake the failed category . You will be examined by two examiners in each conditioned category. You must receive passing scores from both examiners to remove the condition. If you cannot accomplish this within your 3 opportunities, you will have to repeat the entire oral exam.
