Accommodations for persons with disabilities

The ABR supports the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and makes reasonable accommodations in examination procedures for individuals with documented disabilities.

Candidates/diplomates with disabilities may request modifications in the administration of the examination. The ABR will grant such requests unless modifications would place undue burden on the ABR or fundamentally alter the measurement of the knowledge and skills the examination is intended to assess.

Candidates/diplomates considering the need for modifications are urged to read the Procedures for Requesting Accommodations under the ADA, which are available at the links below for Initial Certification and Maintenance of Certification. The procedures outline the documentation required of candidates/diplomates with disabilities who request examination modifications. An application form is also included.

All required documentation must be submitted to the ABR no more than one year and no less than three months in advance of the exam date (six weeks for MOC). Candidates/diplomates anticipating the need for accommodations are encouraged to contact the ABR office well in advance to allow sufficient time for producing any required documentation at least three months in advance of the exam date (six weeks for MOC).

Failure to comply with this deadline will result in the candidate/diplomate being scheduled without special accommodations.
