Study Guide

The computer-based examination includes all aspects of general oncology and radiation oncology, including treatment-planning techniques, physics, cancer biology, radiation biology, and specifics of multi-modality cancer disciplines.

The oral examination is more directed to case-based clinical radiation oncology and general oncology.

The three computer-based examinations
are administered over two days. The medical physics for radiation oncology exam is two hours long. The combined radiation and cancer biology exam is also two hours long. The clinical oncology exam, administered on the second day, is four hours long.

The oral exam
is administered separately. It is case-based; that is, candidates are shown images and asked questions about the depicted patients and diseases.

American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC) Staging:
In all instances where questions relate to disease staging of contemporaneous cases or hypothetical situations, the correct staging system will be the most current as published by the AJCC (at this time, Ed. 7, dated 1/1/2010). In instances where questions refer to previously reported clinical trials, staging will relate to the system in place at the time of the report.
