Check out the resources below. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, visit our Remote Exam pages or contact us directly.
System Requirements for Remote Exams
To sit for an ABR remote exam, you must have a computer setup that meets certain technical specifications. Before exam day, you’ll have the chance to test your equipment through a technical verification, self-guided technical check (oral exam), or an Exam Readiness Check (computer-based exam) — a simulation of the exam experience that helps confirm your system is fully compatible.
If you change your computer or testing location after running the readiness check, we recommend repeating it to ensure everything still works as expected.
Minimum system requirements include:
- Computer: Desktop or laptop (no tablets)
- Audio: Microphone and speakers (or wired headset)
- Camera: Webcam (640 × 480 @ 10 fps or higher), cameras will be used for exam proctoring, and the use of virtual backgrounds is not permitted.
- Internet: Reliable broadband or similar connection
- Operating system: Windows 10 or macOS X 10.11 or newer
- Memory: At least 4 GB RAM
- Storage: At least 10 GB of free disk space
- Monitor: 13″ or larger, with at least 1080p resolution
- Browser: Latest version of Google Chrome (with iframe support)
- Accessories: Keyboard and mouse
Be sure to complete the Monitor Performance Self-Check before exam day to confirm your display is suitable for image-based questions.
