After a candidate enters residency, his or her program director or coordinator will submit the candidate’s name and email address to the ABR as a new resident in the training program.

When the information is received, the ABR will send the candidate a notification and information for logging in to myABR to begin the application process. Please see Resident Application Checklist.

If a candidate has not already applied:

  • Applications are accepted by the ABR July 1 - October 31. (The application fee is due at the time of application.)
  • Applications are reviewed by the ABR in the order they are received.

Fees

The ABR has an exam fee model. Candidates are charged an application fee, a Qualifying (Core) Exam fee, and a Certifying Exam fee. If a candidate does not fully pass the Qualifying (Core) Exam or the Certifying Exam on the first administration, a one-time re-exam fee will apply to retake that exam. Please note that all fees are subject to change.

Fees must be paid within myABR.

Please note that application and exam fees are not refundable.
