Alternate Pathway
A diplomate of the ABR may attain subspecialty certification in pediatric radiology without completing an accredited fellowship if the diplomate meets the following requirements:
- The diplomate must have served on the pediatric radiology subspecialty faculty at a single institution for:
- two consecutive years at 1.0 FTE, with at least 75 percent of clinical responsibility in the discipline, or
- three consecutive years at 1.0 FTE, with at least 50 percent of clinical responsibility in the discipline.
- The diplomate must be certified in general radiology, diagnostic radiology, or interventional radiology/diagnostic radiology.
- Practice experience must be verified by letter from the chief of service or department chair.
- If initial primary certification was achieved via the International Medical Graduate Alternate Pathway, training completed prior to, or as part of, the Sponsoring Department Agreement will not count toward subspecialty certification.
- Evidence of a current state medical license with an expiration date must be provided.
- Before submitting a subspecialty application, the diplomate must pay any outstanding ABR fees in full.
Application
An application form must be submitted to the ABR before a decision can be made regarding a diplomate's qualifications. The application will be available in myABR from February 1 through April 30 each year.
