The ABR is pleased to announce that three new members will be joining the Board of Trustees (BOT) later this month.
Phuong-Anh Duong, MD (diagnostic radiology), Andrew John (AJ) Gunn, MD (interventional radiology/diagnostic radiology), and Katja Langen, PhD (therapeutic medical physics), will become Trustees at the conclusion of the fall 2026 board meeting.
Dr. Duong is an associate professor in the department of radiology at New York University (NYU). She lives in Salt Lake City and provides remote services to NYU. She earned her medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania and completed her diagnostic radiology residency and fellowship in thoracoabdominal imaging at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Duong’s current research focuses on optimizing radiation dose in CT imaging using quality improvement methodology to enhance clinical practice. She also chairs the American College of Radiology’s General Radiology Improvement Database Committee. Her prior ABR experience includes serving as chair of the Noninterpretive Skills Question-Writing Committee for the Diagnostic Radiology Qualifying (Core) and Certifying exams. She joins the BOT as a diagnostic radiology Trustee with the quality and safety portfolio.
Dr. Gunn is a professor and chair of the department of radiology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where he also serves as a faculty radiologist in the division of vascular and interventional radiology. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Dakota in Sioux Falls and completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Harvard Medical School and his fellowship in interventional radiology at Johns Hopkins University. He has over 90 peer-reviewed publications and position statements and has given numerous national and international invited presentations. Dr. Gunn has served the ABR as chair of the Interventional Radiology Certifying Exam Committee and as an oral examiner. He joins the BOT as a Trustee for interventional radiology/diagnostic radiology.
Dr. Langen is a professor in the department of radiation oncology at Emory University in Atlanta, where she serves as the associate director of medical physics and chief of proton therapy physics. Dr. Langen received her PhD in medical physics from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and completed her residency in the department of radiation oncology at the University of San Francisco. Dr. Langen’s recent research has focused on mitigating the uncertainties in proton therapy, and she has spoken extensively on this topic both nationally and internationally. Her ABR service includes chairing the Therapeutic Medical Physics Certifying Exam Writing Committee and serving as an oral examiner many times over the past two decades. Dr. Langen joins the BOT as the Trustee for therapeutic medical physics.
Three Trustees — David Larson, MD, MBA; Vicki Marx, MD; and Paul Rochon, MD — will complete their terms during the meeting. We appreciate their contributions and look forward to working with them in the future.
I will also be completing my term as chair of the BOT and as Trustee for therapeutic medical physics, and I look forward to working with my successors (Anne Covey, MD, and Dr. Langen, respectively) as I continue in my role as Governor.
The BOT is responsible for guiding the development and continuous improvement of ABR assessments and making recommendations to the Board of Governors about exam structures, formats, and scoring. Each of the 23 Trustees has specialty and subspecialty expertise reflecting major areas of clinical practice.
