ABR Sponsoring Four New ABMS Scholars
Representatives from all four disciplines certified by the ABR are part of the new class of American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Scholars: Warren Campbell IV, MD, PhD (diagnostic radiology); Kofi Deh, PhD (medical physics); Mary Mahoney, MD (radiation oncology); and Daniel Veyg, DO (interventional radiology).
Dr. Campbell is a resident at the University of Virginia Medical Center. His research project is titled: “Quantifying Diagnostic Excellence: Utilizing AI Consensus Models on Trainee Preliminary Reports to Optimize Diagnostic Quality and Clinical Feedback for Radiology Residents.”
Dr. Deh is an assistant professor of medical physics at Howard University. His research project is titled: “Measuring What Certification Misses: AI-Assisted Clinical Reasoning Assessment and Opportunity Analysis in Medical Physics Residency Training.”
Dr. Mahoney is a resident at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Her research project is titled: “Building Radiation Oncology Resident Confidence and Competency with a Comprehensive Transition to Practice Rotation.”
Dr. Veyg is a resident at Northwell Health North Shore University Hospital. His research project is titled: “Development and Validation of an AI-Driven Adaptive Curriculum for Interventional Radiology Residency: A Competency-Based Approach to Personalized IR Education.”
ABMS Scholars participate in a year-long, part-time research program that supports early-career physicians, medical physicists, and researchers. The program facilitates their evolution as health care leaders within and across the ABMS community.
Individual grants of $15,000, paid by the sponsoring boards, are awarded to support research and travel expenses associated with program participation and research deliverables. The grant may be applied to an existing research project with a new scope or an original research project.
The ABR received 17 eligible applications this year for its four positions. This is the fourth Scholar class sponsored by the ABR. Overall, a record 23 participants are in this year’s ABMS Scholar class.
