ABR Trustee Earns Inaugural SIR Award
ABR Trustee John Fritz Angle, MD, was presented with the inaugural Dr. Barry T. Katzen Master Clinician Award during the Society of Interventional Radiology annual meeting in Toronto on Tuesday.

The award honors an interventional radiologist who exemplifies dedication to clinical practice, patient care, diligence in their work, and continuous improvement within the field and who has made a demonstrable impact at their institution or practice. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to enhancing patient outcomes and advancing the reputation and practice of interventional radiology (IR). Dr. Katzen pioneered clinical practice for IR in 1976 and was an advocate of the importance of it being a clinical discipline for advancement of the specialty.
Dr. Angle is a professor of radiology and medical imaging and director of the division of vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He became an ABR Trustee last October.
“I am very honored to be the inaugural recipient of this master clinician award,” Dr. Angle said. “Getting a handshake on stage from Dr. Katzen was a huge thrill. There has long been a culture of hard work and clinical excellence at the University of Virginia, so this recognition is also for my great mentors, Drs. Charles Tegtmeyer, Alan Matsumoto and Michael Dake.”
