ACR Membership Elects ABR Trustee as Vice President
ABR Trustee David Larson, MD, MBA, was elected vice president of the American College of Radiology Board of Chancellors at the organization’s annual meeting this week. Former ABR volunteer Alan H. Matsumoto, MD, MA, was voted in as president.

Dr. Larson, who has been an ABR Trustee since 2018, is a professor of radiology at Stanford University and director of the Stanford AI Development and Evaluation Lab.
He is the outgoing chair of the ACR Commission on Quality and Safety and a member of the ACR BOC Finance Committee. He is also the founder and co-director of the ACR Learning Network and the ImPower improvement training and project support program.
“I am incredibly honored to be named ACR Vice President,” he said. “This is an extraordinary time in the history of the College and the field of radiology, with unprecedented challenges and opportunities alike. We are fortunate to have outstanding leaders with deep experience from a variety of backgrounds. I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue to learn from them and to serve the College.”
As a volunteer for both organizations, Dr. Larson sees opportunities for the ABR and ACR to continue working together while maintaining their unique roles.
“I see the ACR and ABR as highly complementary in their efforts to ensure the highest standards in the profession,” he said. “As the field transitions to a new world of AI, for example, the College is setting the standard for AI quality assurance, monitoring, and education, which will help support strategy for the ABR. Conversely, as the ABR moves to a new virtual oral board examination in diagnostic radiology, the ACR can help support the recruitment of physician volunteer examiners. It is reassuring to observe the ongoing collegial relationship between the senior leaders of the two organizations.”
