Exam Accommodations

Learn how to request ABR exam accommodations for disabilities, parental needs, or special circumstances. Fair, supportive, and accessible certification for all.

  • Our goal is to provide a fair and accessible exam process for all. We’re here to support you — no matter your circumstances.

This page explains how to request accommodations for an exam, if you:

    • Have a documented disability.
    • Are a lactating or expectant parent.

The ABR is committed to supporting reasonable requests whenever possible. However, we may be unable to grant requests that would create an undue burden or significantly change the way the exam measures the knowledge and skills it is designed to assess.

    Accommodations for Individuals with Disabilities

The ABR follows the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), providing reasonable accommodations for candidates and diplomates with documented disabilities.

To request accommodations, please submit all required documentation:

    • For computer-based exams: at least six weeks before the exam date.
    • For oral exams: at least 12 weeks before the exam date.

Once your request is received, an ABR staff member will reach out to confirm your needs and plan accommodations that suit you.

We do our best to accommodate requests received after these deadlines but submitting early ensures we can make necessary arrangements.

Accommodations for Lactating and Expectant Parents

We’re committed to supporting candidates and diplomates who are lactating or expecting.

If you need modifications to your exam schedule — such as extra break time — just let us know:

    • For computer-based exams: at least one week before the exam date.
    • For oral exams: at least 12 weeks before the exam date.

Once your request is received, an ABR staff member will reach out to confirm your needs and plan accommodations that suit you.
