American Board of Radiology Appoints New Trustee for Neuroradiology

The American Board of Radiology (ABR) has appointed Christopher P. Wood, MD, to its Board of Trustees, effective October 23, 2017, to replace Robert D. Zimmerman, MD.
Dr. Wood is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he has been on staff since 1992. He completed his Neuroradiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in 1992 after finishing his radiology residency training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Wood has been board certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology since 1991 and has held an American Board of Radiology subspecialty certification in Neuroradiology since 1995. He completed his medical internship training in 1987 at the Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Wood received his medical degree in 1986 from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where he graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Chemistry.
Dr. Wood presently is Associate Chair of Clinical Practice in the Department of Radiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He has been co-director of a national Mayo Clinic Neuroradiology CME course since 2007. Dr. Wood was honored to receive both an Excellence in Teaching Recognition award and an Outstanding Educator award from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He is an active member of many Radiology organizations, especially the ASNR, where he serves on several committees and was its prior membership committee chair. Dr. Wood has been a volunteer with the ABR since 2006 and just completed his second term as chair of the ABR Certifying and MOC Neuroradiology Committee. He is presently a member of the ABR’s Neuroradiology Online Longitudinal Assessment (OLA) Committee and was an ABR oral examiner. Dr. Wood looks forward to continuing his service with the ABR and to its members.

American Board of Radiology Appoints New Governor to Board

The American Board of Radiology (ABR) has appointed Robert M. Barr, MD, FACR, to serve on its Board of Governors, effective October 23, 2017. He will fill the position of secretary-treasurer currently held by Geoffrey S. Ibbott, PhD.
Dr. Barr is a private practice neuroradiologist and the immediate past president of Mecklenburg Radiology Associates, a group of 45 radiologists and 14 physician assistants covering six hospitals and 14 imaging centers based in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. Following internship at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, he returned to UCSF for radiology residency and fellowship before beginning clinical practice in Charlotte. He chairs the Board of Trustees for the Novant Health Medical Group, recently ranked the 10th largest medical group in the U.S. Dr. Barr is the current secretary of the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR) and chair of the ASNR Health Policy Committee. He previously served as chair of the ASNR Economics Committee and as the ASNR Advisor to the American Medical Association/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC). He is also the American College of Radiology (ACR) Councilor for the ASNR and serves on the ASNR Foundation Board.
At the ACR, Dr. Barr previously chaired the Neuroradiology Economics Committee, is an ad hoc member of the Economics Commission, and serves on the Advisory Board of the Harvey L. Neiman Health Policy Institute. He has lectured and published on topics involving neuroradiology and health policy, and he helped coauthor a series of papers analyzing potential efficiencies of multiple same-day advanced imaging studies that played a role in the recently successful campaign to roll back the Medicare multiple procedure payment reduction (MPPR) for professional component reimbursement.
