Wondering if a doctor is board certified? There are places to find out.
A radiologist’s standing can be found on our website under “Verify Board Certification Status.” We at the American Board of Radiology (ABR) issued 1,911 certificates last year to physicians in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, medical physics, and radiation oncology. We have more than 29,000 doctors participating in Maintenance of Certification programs that provide certified physicians with opportunities for continuing education, thus allowing them to better serve the public.
For physicians outside the radiology field, the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), offers CertificationMatters.org, a service that’s mobile-friendly and features a simplified search tool, as well as information about the ABR and the 23 other specialty boards that certify physicians.
More than four of five people surveyed last year said certification status is an important factor for choosing a doctor – second only to whether the physician is covered by their insurance. For patients, knowing that the doctors who treat them and their family members are board certified instills peace of mind and confidence as they make decisions about their health.
