American Board of Radiology Appoints New Trustee for Medical Physics
The American Board of Radiology (ABR) has appointed Kalpana M. Kanal, PhD, DABR, to its Board of Trustees, effective October 23, 2017. Dr. Kanal will replace J. Anthony Seibert, PhD, who is moving to the ABR Board of Governors.
A native of India who came to the U.S. in 1989 to pursue postgraduate education, Dr. Kanal is currently section chief of diagnostic physics at the University of Washington’s Department of Radiology in Seattle. She received her master’s degree in physics at the University of Texas at Arlington, and her PhD in radiological sciences in 1996 at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Subsequently, Dr. Kanal completed a two-year residency in clinical medical physics at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She was board certified by the ABR in 1999 in diagnostic radiologic physics.
An ABR volunteer, Dr. Kanal been a member of various committees, chair of the Core Physics Committee, and, for several years, an oral examiner. She is a fellow of the American Association for Physicists in Medicine, American College of Radiology, and the Society of Computed Body Tomography and MR. She has authored 51 publications.
