Part 1: Professionalism and Professional Standing
Last verified on June 23, 2017Throughout the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process, the physician must hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in all states in which the physician currently practices in the United States, its territories, or Canada. In addition, the ABR reserves the right to evaluate any and all state medical licenses in states in which the diplomate does not practice, but holds a license. If practicing abroad, licensure in the country of practice is required. Physicians practicing in a VA facility may use a medical license from a state or jurisdiction other than the one in which they currently practice. Restrictions placed on a medical license must be reported to the ABR by the physician within 60 days of their imposition.
